Suzzallo Library Seismic Stabilization

Major work happening here:

The goal of the seismic improvements program is to improve seismic preparedness by addressing unreinforced masonry (URM) building elements including bearing walls, non-bearing walls, parapets, façade features and similar architectural elements. Seismic work at Suzzallo Library will include URM bearing wall strengthening, parapet bracing, finial bracing and facade pinning. Work will also include improvements and restoration of the building façade including masonry repair, replacement, repointing, resealing etc.

Current + Upcoming Construction Activities

  • Terrace slab shoring installation within the Terrace crawlspace

  • Scaffold erection along the North, West, and South Elevations of the Building

  • Erection of overhead pedestrian protection along the Terrace

  • Placement of a 10’ x 30’ Conex to the south of the Terrace stairs

  • Masonry cleaning + restoration mockups

  • Masonry anchor pull-testing

  • Window surveying

  • Masonry pre-cleaning at the North + West Elevations

  • Mortar removal at the North + West Elevations

  • Masonry anchor installation at the North Elevation
